how are giant slayers made
It’s crazy that a teenager named David was the only one who had the courage to fight and kill a giant when all the fiercest warriors were afraid (I Sam. 17). Courage and having faith like David are the key ingredients for raising up children and youth to slay giants that stand up against them in the cultural pressures and wars that are now raging around the world for their identity.
Let me share with you what made me a giant killer when I was young.
I remember when I was twelve years old and I had to attend a new school where I didn’t know anyone. I was super shy growing up but had gained so much confidence in elementary school that my self-esteem soared, but then handling the news that our school was closing down devastated me and set me on a tailspin. There were so many factors working against me- my shyness, puberty onset, and it didn’t help that I was 5 foot 7 inches tall, which means I towered over the boys and girls in my 7th grade class. I became depressed and aloof.
There was one afternoon I will never forget, when I was waiting for my Dad to pick me up from school. After about a month of rejection and feeling like an outsider, a nobody, a nothing, I cried out to God in front of that school and asked for His help.
That was my turning point.
Not only did God hear my prayers, but at the same time both my parents and my older brother Chad had just received the Holy Spirit and the Charismatic movement was being birthed in my home, which would reach all of Reno, Nevada area. Shortly after that afternoon when I cried out to God, I received the Holy Spirit’s power and found a whole new community of believers from every denomination who taught me how to be a Giant Slayer and overcome my fears of rejection and feeling like I was nothing. God heard my prayers and taught me how to overcome.
God made me a giant slayer not by taking me out of the school where I felt rejected but by showing me who I was in the midst of my pain.
Giant Slayers cannot gain success in slaying giants until they live amongst giants and know the power of what God has given them to slay the giants that are taunting them. I believe we are in a season of teaching our youth and children how to slay the giants around them. It wasn’t the size of the giants that were coming against my identity, rather it was the power of the Presence of God that helped me overcome, along with the community around me.
This is why on July 17-20th, I am putting on a 4-day online camp for children, teens, parents, and educators who want to learn how to raise up Giant Killers through their connection with God, biblical principles, knowing their own hearts, and processing their own journey in creative ways.
What If Your Child Learned To Become A Giant Killer?
If you want your children, youth, or instructors to know how to creatively hear God’s voice and become victorious in their lives, I want to encourage you to attend this event, where you and your children will learn creative ways to process pain, hear God’s voice, and know their true identity.
