WHO ARE YOU RUNNING WITH?
Kevin and I love to go walking every morning with our dog, Kai around the walking trails near our home in Southern California (who loves my new Hoka shoes – they make me feel like I am walking on clouds).
As we were walking in the morning drizzle today, we looked around and saw tons of snails making their way across the trail.
Now, I think it’s downright convenient that a snail can carry their house on their back and curl up inside their shell if there is danger or they want to take a nap, but they have to be one of the slowest movers on the planet- right? Right! (of course, there are some drivers I know…)
It was then walking amidst the snails that I had this profound revelation. I wonder if God is looking at us from the same type of vantage point that we may be looking at snails on our daily walk- wondering if we will ever venture out of our safe environment. Wondering if we are going to risk getting stepped on or to see what’s growing on the other side of our small world.
We need one another…
As I delicately avoided the snails on my path (I can't say the same for my dog- who was looking for birds to chase), I realized that they were all trying to do it on their own. I realized then what a daunting task it would be to spend so much time and effort, like a snail who’s trying to cross the road alone.
Most of us do the same thing. We live our lives trying to get to where we want to go without anyone coming alongside us to encourage us when we feel discouraged or alone.
It was then, that I realized that the beauty in life is not in how far we go in a certain amount of time, but in who’s running with us.
The beauty is in who is there for us when we fall down, get lost, or just need a shoulder to cry on.
At that moment, I looked over and I saw two snails crossing the road together. I realized two are better than one. The whole body of Christ is meant to support one another (1 Corinthians 12).
I don’t know about your own journey and what risks you will take to fulfill your God-given assignments and creative potential,
but whatever you do- don’t do it alone!
